Rain
On June 30th, I went back to the woods where I danced on June 9th, the funeral day of Mr. George Floyd.
June is a rainy season in Japan. I walked in the rain.
As I spent the next two days editing this video, the rain never stopped.

My Virtual Residency hosted by Wesleyan University's Center for the Arts officially ended on June 30. During these three months, I, like many others, have struggled with the Covid-19 pandemic and stayed mostly at home.
These three months have also been the longest time I have been in Japan, as I left New York for a safer place to live and work.
The world has been so shaken by the police brutality, racial injustice, and the brave movement of Black Lives Matter. I have also been shaken living in this quiet Tokyo suburb.
Except when teaching online, I have worked rather exclusively for this Virtual Studio all day every day. But it has been blessing to be able to go for a walk. In such times, I marveled at how each green, tree, and flower has a different time scale to grow and bloom.
