Beverly McIver

Beverly McIver and Eiko met through the introduction of Jodee Nimerichter, the director of American Dance Festival, and regard each other as a" New Friend". After their first meeting in North Carolina where Beverly lives,  Beverly travelled to Japan to meet Eiko's mother , who turned out to have died shortly before Beverly's arrival. Beverly, however, learned a lot about Eiko's family by attending the funeral of Eiko's mother and created a series of large paintings of that experience. For the premiere performance at ADF 2019, Beverly allowed Eiko to use these paintings on stage and, though she had never performed before,  also agreed to perform live with Eiko. They intend to continue their dialogue and work together when her exhibition is planned.

Beverly McIver is widely acknowledged as a significant presence in contemporary American art and has charted a new direction as an African American female artist. She is committed to producing art that examines racial, gender, social identity, and occupational identity.
