The Museum of Modern Art’s Doc Fortnight Festival
New York, NY — World Premiere, U.S. Premiere

MoMA’s Doc Fortnight 2022 presented the world premiere of A Body in Fukushima. There was an in-person screening on March 6 followed by a conversation with Eiko and William Johnston and another in-person screening on March 8. The film was also available online via MoMA’s Virtual Cinema streaming platform from February 23–March 10.

FICA - International Environmental Film Festival
Goiás, Brazil — South American Premiere

A Body in Fukushima had its South American premiere at the 23rd FICA - International Environmental Film Festival in Goiás, Brazil, a World Heritage site. It was screened at the São Joaquim Theatre on June 2, as well as through the festival’s online platform. Cláudia Tatinge Nascimento translated the film in Portuguese.

Jumping Frames — Hong Kong International Movement-Image Festival
Yau Ma Tei, Hong Kong — Asian Premiere

A Body in Fukushima had its Asian premiere at Jumping Frames — Hong Kong International Movement-Image Festival, curated by festival director Elysa Wendi. It was screened as part of “International Feature Film Selections: Body Narratives” at Broadway Cinematheque. Eiko created a version of the film with English and Chinese subtitles.

Macao

A Body in Fukushima with English and Chinese subtitles was a Focus Screening at ROLLOUT Dance Film Festival in Macao. It was screened at Cinema Alegria.

International Uranium Film Festival
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

A Body in Fukushima with Portuguese subtitles was screened at the 2023 International Uranium Film Festival at Modern Art Museum Cinematheque in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and received an Honorable Mention. The festival is dedicated to all films about nuclear power and the risks of radioactivity, from uranium mining to nuclear waste, from atomic bombs to nuclear power plants, from Hiroshima to Fukushima.
